Quite rare to find this wonderful early 20th century terry cloth towel! ~ ( I have a set of these lovely textiles and I am selling them individually, so each purchase is for ONE of these lovely towels, please see below) The loop weave of terry toweling was invented in the mid to late 1800's. An inspired invention! Forming the loops depended on the ingenious ideal of incorporating an additional thread during weaving. Terry toweling reached great popularity around 1900 in France and was available for purchase from such department stores as Printemp which had large catalogs of the different weights and tones available to order~! The last photograph shows a terry cloth towel in the wash pile, taken in France in the early 1900's. So lovely to find! This towel was heavily marked with storage marks so I have washed them and they came out beautifully! The colors is white and the lovely monogram is F , hand stitched in red. This towel has beautiful row of drawn ladderwork on each end. CONDITION : I've freshly laundered this lovely towel and it's ready to use! There may be some pale rust marks on your towel, only tiny on some!
