THE MILLION was a short-lived magazine (a failure for Newnes) who became a millionaire in the publishing business The magazine--roughly 32 pages per issue--cost a penny an issue. Its readers were called by Newnes--millionaires The magazine was printed on letter press, so it did not use expensive paper. Newnes apparently imported the color letter presses from France. Although THE MILLION lasted a few years, it gave other magazines and idea to use cheap color paper. Newspapers and magazines in the USA later used this for their color comics The 66 color illustrations (many full page) were illustrated by artists such as Paul Hardy, E.C. Clifford, Harry Tuck, Robert Sauber, R. Simkin, J.P. Stafford, J. Finnemore The magazines featured many articles both non-fiction & fiction including: A continuing serial by Dick Donovan titled 'Eugene Vidocq' Continuing articles on Stamp Collecting--'Our Stamp Album' with illustrations How Mormons are Married Our Millionaire Prize--a competition How to Shop in Turkey Performing Fleas--How They Are Trained A Gossip column Where Girls Live in Cages Recollections of a Young Middle Aged Man. Written and illustrated by J.P. Stafford Mystery of the Kennett's Cross by Headon Hill--a 10 part serial Red Rock Diamonds, or, The Casting Away of Yolante Sinclair--a 17 part serial This bound volume is quite scarce--not on Worldcat.org. nor on the net.
