Description: First Heritage Press edition of Lewis Carroll's pair of classic children's tales, in an exceptionally handsome and well preserved Maurin binding. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass were first published in 1865 and 1871, respectively. These masterpieces of fantasy literature earned their author "a place in the firmament of the great, for they are not only acts of imaginative genius but they also revolutionized writing for children" (ODNB). Two works in one volume, a nice hefty octavo, about 8.5 inches tall. Beautifully printed by George Macy's Heritage Press with the classic frontispiece and other illustrations by John Tenniel. Three quarters blue crushed morocco, spine with an absolutely fabulous White Rabbit running late, as well as other gorgeous gilt features in Maurin's best style. Gilt top edge and handsome patterned papers to covers. A seemingly flawless copy in a slipcase that's done a wonderful job protecting it over the decades. Like new. Would make an incredible gift for an Alice fan.
