A Chippewa Tomahawk Circa 1800s Native American Frank Covert Provenance

Description: 19” Damage as shown Original tag present Purchased from an important western Pennsylvania family The former owner of this piece, Frank Covert, was a partner to Mark Harrington in "Covert & Harrington, Commercial Ethnologists". Their business was arranging exhibits of Indian artifacts at schools, colleges and museums. Harrington went on to work for George Gustav Heye, collecting materials that would make up the inventory of the Museum of the American Indian in New York City. Covert's collection of Native American baskets is owned by the Michigan State University Museum. There are 756 items in the Smithsonian Frank M Covert sold to George Heye, who donated his entire world renowned collection to the museum.
